Living On Mars EP

Recorded in mid 2009.
It was recorded after I had made a few albums that were very lo-fi and basic. I was on the verge of starting a something new, and originally wanted it to be a full length album.

At the time I recorded it, the microphone was playing up an awful lot which caused a lot of fuzz that you will hear on the tracks. I was trying not to use drums for this one as I wanted a more stripped back sound, you will hear pennies being dropped into a jar on 'You Can't See Mars' instead of the usual drums I would add to tracks on previous albums.

The songs 'We Have Pillow Fights' & 'My Alien Friend' were my ways of expressing 2 lonely souls going through school feeling alienated from the rest of the kids, laughing at things and not taking notice to how weird way appeared to other people, living on another planet basically.

The track 'Living On Mars' was taken from a demo I did from the previous album. It was originally called 'Cars Kill Cats' and was a very creepy guitar part that I ended up reversing and adding delay effects to. We had lost our family cat to a car on the road outside our house and I wanted to capture the stress and upset that we felt when finding Toby by the side of the road.

The background track for 'In My Rocket Ship' was recorded with a webcam which had a microphone on it. It was all very rudimentary and innocent. I was always trying to find new ways of recording and it was definitely an interesting EP because of that.

I had made previous albums including:
On Water, You Better, Ignorance & Perfect Wood... and others before that.

Everything pre 'On Water' was more of a compilation of demos and ideas, and I still can't decide if I want to publish the ones above on this site as they are very rough around the edges, It would be the first 'Long Play' compilation if I end up adding them.

The next mini album I made would be 'Crazy World' which was made at the end of 2009 going into 2010. I was getting into Velvet Underground & The Strokes which would pave the way for where my melodies would begin to go on future projects.

Anyway, I feel that Living On Mars belongs on the archive as a bitesize example of my earlier work. I was really into music like The Flaming Lips, My Bloody Valentine & Badly Drawn Boy. I had only just turned 14 so don't expect a masterpiece.
